How long can I stay on the Smart for Life program?
Stay on the program as long as you need in order to reach your goal. Because the program is balanced, your nutritional needs will be provided for very well. Clients who need to lose 10 pounds will only need 3 to 4 weeks, while people who need to lose more may go up to 2 years. It is very important to check with your doctor as you lose weight, especially if you take medication. Good news may be in store as your weight changes, your medication needs usually decrease.
How does the Smart for Life program help me control my new weight long term?
The products will teach you to eat small, multiple meals throughout the day that will go a long way in stabilizing your weight. You will also need to exercise moderately for at least 3 hours per week. Share Every night I rush around the house trying to gather the kids stuff for daycare and one of my chores is to make lunch. One of the new products we have been sampling is the Apple Juice and Applesauce from Tree Top!
The applesauce is really good and so easy to pack in my kids lunch and I know that they are eating healthy. I can also bring the applesauce containers to work so that I can get a serving of fruit in my lunch also. Now, the apple juice...didn't even last a day in my house..my little drink monster drank my only jug of it. Did they like it??? Yep, and they wanted more so we added that to our grocery list.
2 cups green apple chunks (approximately 2 medium Granny Smith apples)
¼ cup sour cream
¼ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
8 corn or flour tortillas (6 inch each)
2 cups grated Monterey Jack Cheese
Directions:
Slice pre-cooked grilled chicken breasts into ¼ inch thick slices. In a small bowl, whisk together green chiles, sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice and cilantro. Spread 1 tbsp. of prepared sauce on each of the tortillas. Top 4 of the tortillas each with ½ cup apple chunks and the sliced chicken breast. Spread evenly ½ cup of cheese on top. Then cover with remaining tortillas. Heat olive oil in pan & grill each quesadilla over medium heat, uncovered, turning once until cheese is melted and both sides are golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side. Keep warm in a 200°F oven until ready to serve.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve with Pico de Gallo, Tree Top Green Apple Salsa (another Tree Top recipe) or your favorite salsa.

We loaded it up with photos of our little guy, their second grandson, and snuck it under the tree. What I love about this specific keychain, which is available at Canadian Tire, is that it holds up to 100 pics, all photos resize to fit the screen, and it’s PC and Mac friendly (a must these days for all Moms). Also, it charges via a USB cable, so it’s simple to keep the device up and running to show off family photos on the go.
Cuisinart Smart Stick Blender (Red) - $44.99 approx Who says gadgets have to be all megabytes and megapixels? There are thousands of useful kitchen tech toys that your Mom will love. For a new Mom, this Smart Stick Blender is great for mixing up food for your baby or toddler. Also, it’s dishwasher safe, so you don’t have to worry about clumsy cleaning. Oh, and it's pretty too (comes in metallic red!).
iPod Shuffle - $69.99 approx The iPod Shuffle has been available for a while now. However, this particular Apple music player now lives in the shadows of its bigger brothers and sisters, but we shouldn’t forget what makes this tiny gadget great.
First of all, it’s a breeze to use (it can play music randomly or in order). Also, don't be fooled by its small size, it holds a lot of tunes (up to 100 songs with the 4GB version). Before you hand this over to Mom, download some of her favourite songs. As for colours, you have five shiny options.
Flip Video Cam (Ultra 2nd Generation, White & Pink) - $169.99 approx The Flip palm-sized camcorders are one of the best things to ever happen to the consumer video recording world. With one-button controls, and easy file transfer with a flip-out USB arm that plugs into your computer, this little gadget is a must-have for any Mom.
This version, the Ultra 2nd Generation, can record up to two hours of video and the built-in software makes these files easy to save and share. Unfortunately, some versions of the Flip video cam are sold out online in Canada, but with a little perseverance, hopefully you can track one down in time for Mother's Day.
Sony Reader Touch Edition (three colours avail) - $299.99 I wrote about this Sony Reader last week, so check out that article for more details. There is so much happening right now in the e-reader space, but there are a few things I love about the Sony Reader Touch Edition. For one, it's easy to use (touch and read anywhere). Also, it's so lightweight, lighter than many books (so it's perfect for traveling).
Like all readers, you can buy e-books online, but the thing that makes the Sony Reader exceptionally awesome is that you can rent books from the library. Yes, that means you can read your favourite new releases for free (there might be a wait to get a version of the library book you want, but it won't be long and you will be notified via email). Once your Mom gets this Reader in her hands, she'll never want to let it go.
I've never used an e-book reader. In fact, I've mostly looked at these devices as yet another category of gadgets that I don't need. After all, since Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 1400s, the physical book has adequately served our everyday knowledge needs. However, being an electronics enthusiast, I was not entirely against trying out the Reader Touch Edition™, but I didn't expect that this tech toy would change my reading habits.
My test involved taking the Reader Touch Edition™ on a business trip to Phoenix. I packed it up, along with my other high-tech goodies, and loaded up free and paid content while in the departure lounge at the Toronto airport.
Aside from millions of no-fee classics (public domain titles) available for the device from Google, such as Moby Dick, you can also borrow electronic books from the library, depending on availability (most other readers are tied to just one download destination). However, like many modern moms, I wanted a recent read so I bought a popular business book, ReWork by Jason Fried, from Sony's eBook Store (for $15.50, which is just slightly cheaper than buying the physical copy)
Loading up content on the device is easy, just as long as you're plugged into a computer with Internet access (you can't yet download wirelessly). Once I had my Reader synced up, we boarded the plane and I got ready for a 5-hour flight and some serious me plus e-book time.
I don't normally read in the air, but I was glued to ReWork (and my new gadget) from the moment I sat down. What I loved about the Reader Touch Edition™ is that it fits perfectly (and feels great) in your hands (oh, and I am testing out the shiny red version, which was also quite the conversation piece).
With a 6-inch screen and thin 0.4-inch body, I could hold the gadget in one hand and use the forward button or on-screen key to move to the next page. With the option to increase text size, I could even set the device on my knees and still see the words. This is hard to believe until you try it out for yourself, but I prefer the Reader experience more than the experience of holding a physical book (I am sure ole Gutenberg is rolling over in his grave right about now).
The device comes with a stylus pen, which you can use for highlighting text, searching definitions, or saving notes, but I was too comfortable just reading to bother with any of that. Lighter than most books, the Sony Reader didn't take up as much room in my purse as I expected (and it comes with a protective case, so you don't have to worry about smudging up the screen). As for the device's technical capabilities, it holds up to 350 books (or more with memory expansion card slots) and Sony says one single battery charge will allow up to 7,500 page turns (that's a lot of text!).
Needless to say, I'm a fan. I could see my Mom, who is a voracious reader, loving it, and I can't wait to get my son a chance to enjoy the e-book experience (he's only 1, but I'm pretty sure he'll be reading any day now, being a boy genius and all).
Like all new-ish gadgets, there is some room for improvement. To make the Reader the perfect companion, I'd love to see wireless connectivity and a light to make reading in the dark a reality. In the meantime, there's the PRSACL6 Leather Case for the Reader Touch Edition™ featuring a built-in reading light.
As for price, they've just dropped the cost of the Touch Edition from $399.99 to $299.99 (the basic version, the Reader Pocket Edition, which is available without the touchscreen technology, is now $199.99).
I have a slew of business trips coming up in the next few weeks, and I can't wait to download some more books on the Reader, making my bag lighter, my mind richer, and my flights go that much faster.

Share For the last few months we have been enjoying our LEARNING TOWER! This is a wonderful help and play toy in our house. You can do so many things with this tower. One of the newest additions is the EASEL AND CHALK BOARD attachment. My kids love to draw on everything around my house including my walls. You should see the master piece I just caught Korbyn making. Well, I pulled out our attachment and hooked it on to our Learning Tower in just a few seconds. I've never used an e-book reader. In fact, I've mostly looked at these devices as yet another category of gadgets that I don't need. After all, since Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 1400s, the physical book has adequately served our everyday knowledge needs. However, being an electronics enthusiast, I was not entirely against trying out the 
The device comes with a stylus pen, which you can use for highlighting text, searching definitions, or saving notes, but I was too comfortable just reading to bother with any of that. Lighter than most books, the Sony Reader didn't take up as much room in my purse as I expected (and it comes with a protective case, so you don't have to worry about smudging up the screen). As for the device's technical capabilities, it holds up to 350 books (or more with memory expansion card slots) and Sony says one single battery charge will allow up to 7,500 page turns (that's a lot of text!).
Like all new-ish gadgets, there is some room for improvement. To make the Reader the perfect companion, I'd love to see wireless connectivity and a light to make reading in the dark a reality. In the meantime, there's the
