The SpiceStack Story

The SpiceStack was dreamed up by product engineer Brian McLain. When Brian approached inventor Mark Greenwood with the stacked-drawer concept, Mark knew it was a winner. He had often seen his wife, an avid cook, search frustratingly for spices in her messy spice cabinet.

Convinced that home cooks could benefit from a more functional, easy-to-use spice rack, Brian and Mark completed SpiceStack's patented design and development. The first 27-Bottle SpiceStack was manufactured in November 2006 at a plant in Elk Grove Village, Ill., U.S.A., where SpiceStacks are still made today.

Mark's daughter Lauren Greenwood joined the business in April 2007 to help oversee sales and marketing. Operations quickly moved from garage to warehouse as more consumers were introduced to the organizing power of SpiceStack's drop-down drawers (spurring many "why didn't I think of that?"s).

In early 2008, the SpiceStack appeared in an infomercial on national cable. It has also been featured in Women's Day, Cooking Pleasures, Women's World, Coastal Living and SkyMall Magazine.

In October 2008, the 18-Bottle SpiceStack was introduced to consumers through SpiceStack.com. The new model included blank and pre-printed labels for the outside of SpiceStack's three drawers -- a feature that had been requested by hundreds of customers through survey feedback. More than 100,000 SpiceStacks have been sold in the U.S. to date.

Mark and Lauren now own and operate YouCopia Products Inc., a company dedicated to designing and manufacturing home products that help people cope with life's little problems... like too many spices!
